At Volandia, the photographic exhibition by Professor Bruno Damascelli. A visual journey that strengthens the bond between the Museum of Flight and the Italian Air Force.

On Saturday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m., the photographic exhibition “Custodi dell’Aria” will open to the public. The exhibition features 50 spectacular and evocative photographs dedicated to the aircraft operated by the Italian Air Force over the years. It represents a project of high cultural value, rooted in the now well-established collaboration between the author and the Italian Air Force. Sponsored by the Armed Force, the exhibition combines its cultural dimension with a charitable purpose: a fundraising initiative in support of the Opera Nazionale per i Figli degli Aviatori and the Fondazione Falciani Onlus, which is engaged in early diagnosis and cancer treatment.
The exhibition opening will also be an opportunity to introduce museum visitors to the activities of the Aeronautica Militare in the fields of Defense and Air Rescue, as well as the professional opportunities the Armed Force offers to young people, thanks to dedicated information points staffed by personnel.

BRUNO DAMASCELLI
In the landscape of Italian aviation photography, few names evoke the same combination of technical mastery and elegance as Bruno Damascelli. A radiologist by profession and a photographer by vocation, Damascelli has portrayed the world of military aviation through a truly distinctive lens.
Born in 1939, he is Emeritus Chief of Radiology at the National Cancer Institute of Milan. Alongside his medical career, he cultivated from a young age a deep passion for aviation and action photography. His distinctive hallmark lies in his ability to capture the “decisive” moment of flight, turning each shot into a unique work.
One of the most extraordinary aspects of his career is his remarkable skill in photographing aerobatic formations while flying aboard military aircraft engaged in complex maneuvers. He has flown with the Frecce Tricolori and other aerobatic units, consistently capturing the perfect instant even under extreme conditions. In every photograph, the metal of the aircraft seems almost to come alive.
